\nPakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) turned around on Friday after going down for five straight sessions, with the KSE-100 Index gaining 310.24 points (+0.69 percent) to close at 45,312.65 points.
\nThe market opened on a positive note but switched between the green and red territories during the first two hours trading. However, later the bourse remained positive for the rest of the session. The sessions remained lacklustre amid low volumes. Though the session ended in the green, the benchmark KSE-100 Index closed the month of August down by 3,032 points (-6.31 percent), leaving investors in a state of disbelief and dismay. This has been the highest monthly decline in percentage terms since the Covid-19 pandemic.
\nThe benchmark index traded in a range of 562.47 points showing an intraday high of 45,358.28 points and an intraday low of 44,795.81 points. Among other indices, the KSE All Share Index gained 201.56 points (+0.67 percent) to close at 30,243.53 points, while KMI All Share Islamic Index gained 137.60 points (+0.63 percent) to close at 21,763.23 points.
\nTotal volumes traded for the KSE-100 Index decreased by 113.45 million shares to 55.69 million shares against 169.14 million shares traded a session earlier. The overall market volumes decreased by 125.54 million shares to 161.82 million shares against 287.36 million shares traded a session earlier.
\nAmong scrips, NCPL topped the volumes with 15.18 million shares, followed by WTL (12.7 million) and ASC (12.15 million). Stocks that contributed significantly to the volumes included NCPL, WTL, ASC, SEARLR2, and JSBL which formed over 34 percent of total volumes.
\nA total of 290 companies traded shares in the stock exchange against 324 a session earlier, out of which shares of 196 closed up, shares of 77 closed down while shares of 17 companies remained unchanged. A total of 91 companies traded shares in the KSE-100 Index against 96 a session earlier, out of which share price of 67 companies closed up, 21 closed down and three remained unchanged.
\nThe number of total trades decreased by 53,140 to 88,015 as compared to 141,155 trades recorded in the previous session, while the value traded decreased by Rs7.84 billion to Rs4.46 billion as compared to Rs12.30 billion in the previous session.
\nIn terms of rupee, NESTLE remained the top gainer and witnessed an increase of Rs89 (+1.29 percent) per share, closing at Rs7,100. The runner-up remained INDU, the share price of which climbed up by Rs52 (+5.56 percent) to Rs987.71. BHAT remained the top loser in terms of rupee and witnessed a decrease of Rs34.99 (-3.78 percent) per share, closing at Rs890.01, followed by PRET, the share price of which fell by Rs29.98 (-7.49 percent) to close at Rs370.15 per share.
\nThe major sector taking the index towards north remained oil & gas exploration companies (111 points), commercial banks (66 points), power generation & distribution (56 points), automobile assembler (35 points), and food & personal care products (15 points). The major companies adding points to the index remained HUBC (50 points), POL (39 points), UBL (36 points), PPL (29 points), and OGDC (28 points).
\nThe sectors taking the index towards south were investment banks\/ investment companies\/ securities companies (19 points), cement and automobile parts & accessories (12 points each), technology & communication (5 points), and leather & tanneries (2 points). The major companies depriving the index of points remained DAWH (19 points), LUCK (16 points), MEBL (15 points), and TRG and THALL (12 points each).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
