Over 1.6 million out of school children to be enrolled under the drive, says authorities
\nPESHAWAR
\nKhyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched the second round of the enrollment drive throughout the province including Peshawar to enroll a maximum number of out-of-school children in schools.
\nDuring enrollment drive, Voluntary Service Overseas, Education Cannot Wait, Participatory Rural Development Society (PRDS), Palladium, NCHD and other partner organizations are supporting the Elementary and Secondary Education Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to bring-out a maximum number of children to the schools.
\nIn this regard PRDS held ceremonies and awareness walks in different schools of Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda and Dir to celebrate international day of Literacy, which was participated by education officers, parents, officials of the Multi Years Resilience program and others.
\nTalking about the enrollment campaign, Sheikh Fakhr-e-Alam, media specialist of Elementary and Secondary Education KP said that more than 0.8 million out-of-school children have been enrolled in the schools so far and this year the government has set a target to enroll 1.6 million out of school children.
\nHe further said that the admission drive is continued with the support of Ulemas (religious leaders), local body members and others, who are educating their respective communities about the importance of education, so that more and more children could be enrolled. The campaign will be continued till September 30, he added.
\nAddressing the ceremony in Peshawar, Tariq Hayat, Provincial Manager MYRP said that government has set target of enrolling 1.6 million out of school students, for which efforts will be made to attract more children to schools with the support of VSO, PRDS and other partner organizations and education department.
\nFor the purpose, special committees have been set up by the education department at school level to create awareness among the parents about the importance of education in their respective areas and they will help enroll boys and girls to the nearest schools, who couldn\u2019t continue their education due to various reasons including poverty.
\nHe said without education we cannot develop a civilized and educated society and for this each and every person must play his\/her due role.
\nHe said the MYR program is not only providing logistical and technical support to the enrollment campaign, but their volunteers are also rendering their services in different areas to identify out-of-school children and enroll them in the nearest schools. They are playing a key role to make the enrollment drive a success.
