ISLAMABAD: Oil prices remained on an upward slide on Tuesday amid expectation of a tighter crude market on supply curbs from OPEC+ members and the latest Energy Information Administration report about decline in the US shale oil production. As of 1310 hours GMT, Brent, the international benchmark for two-thirds of the world\u2019s oil, gained $1.10 (+1.16 percent) to reach $95.53 a barrel. The West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the main oil benchmark for North America, went up by $1.71 (+1.87 percent) to $93.19 a barrel. However, the price of Russian Sokol decreased by $0.61 (-0.69 percent) to $87.47. Arab Light prices witnessed a decrease of $0.34 (-0.35 percent) to reach $97.51 a barrel. On the other hand, the price for Opec Basket surged to $96.87 with an increase of $1.17 (+1.22 percent). The OPEC Reference Basket of Crudes (ORB) is made up of Saharan Blend, Girassol, Djeno, Zafiro, Rabi Light, Iran Heavy, Basra Light, Kuwait Export, Es Sider, Bonny Light, Arab Light, Murban and Merey. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in its latest drilling productivity report that shale oil production in the United States is set to decline for the third month in a row to 9.39 million barrels daily. \nThat would be down from 9.433 million barrels daily for August and a record-high 9.476 million bpd for July.
\nFalling global inventories amid a tightening market with the OPEC+ and Saudi production cuts have supported oil prices in recent weeks. The International Energy Agency has forecast a global oil demand growth of 1.5 million barrels per day in the second half of the year, compared with the first half, exceeding supply by 1.24 million bpd during the period.
\n\u201cFrom September onwards, the loss of Opec+ production, led by Saudi Arabia, will drive a significant supply shortfall through the fourth quarter,\u201d the IEA said in its monthly report this week.
\nOpec+ members Saudi Arabia and Russia announced that they would extend supply cuts of a combined 1.3 million bpd to the end of the year.
\nAs part of their voluntary cuts, the kingdom is extending its output reduction of a million bpd until December while Russia is rolling over its export cut of 300,000 bpd until the end of the year.
\nIn its monthly oil market report on Tuesday, Opec said it expected a supply shortfall of 3.3 million bpd over the next three months.
