Sialkot DPO says Imran Riaz is recovered, is with his family now
\nSIALKOT\/LAHORE
\nTelevision anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan, who had been missing for about five months, has been recovered and reunited with his family. The news of Khan\u2019s safe recovery was shared by the Sialkot police on social media platform X early Monday. \u201cJournalist\/Anchor Mr Imran Riaz Khan has been safely recovered.
\nHe is now with his family,\u201d reads the post. Sialkot District Police Officer Hassan Iqbal said Imran Riaz has been recovered safely has reached him home. Imran Riaz was arrested on May 11 from the Sialkot Airport under 3MPO after the May 9 protests that broke out throughout the country following PTI Chairman Imran Khan\u2019s arrest from Islamabad High Court.
\nImran Riaz left in a private car after his release from the district jail on May 12. The Lahore High Court (LHC) was informed on May 15 that the TV anchorperson was released from prison after taking an undertaking in writing.
\nAfter remaining missing for a long time, the Punjab inspector general of police was given \u201cone last opportunity\u201d by the LHC on September 20 to recover Imran Riaz by September 26. In a post loaded on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Sialkot police said: \u201cJournalist\/anchor Mr Imran Riaz Khan has been safely recovered. He is now with his family.\u201d
\nImran Riaz\u2019s lawyer Mian Ali Ashfaq, also in his post on X, wrote: \u201cBy God\u2019s special blessing, grace and mercy, I have brought back my prince.\u201d He said: \u201cIt took a lot of time due to the pile of difficulties, the last limit of understanding of the matter, a weak judiciary and the current ineffective public constitution and legal helplessness.\u201d
\nThe lawyer further wrote: \u201cDespite the unspeakable circumstances, Allah Almighty showed us this best day. Only limitless gratitude right now.\u201d Imran Riaz was last known to be taken to Cantt police station after his arrest and later to the Sialkot prison.
\nOn May 15, a law officer had told the LHC that the anchorperson was released from jail after taking an undertaking in writing. His whereabouts however remained unknown. Subsequently, a first information report (FIR) of Imran Riaz\u2019s alleged abduction was registered with Sialkot Civil Lines police on May 16 on the complaint of the anchorperson\u2019s father, Muhammad Riaz.
\nThe FIR was registered against \u201cunidentified persons\u201d and police officials for allegedly kidnapping Imran Riaz, invoking Section 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
\nThe journalist\u2019s father had also filed a plea in the LHC for his recovery. After several orders issued by court for producing the journalist in court, the IHC judge gave \u201ca last opportunity\u201d to the Punjab police to recover Riaz by Sept 26.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
