Dr Sarfaraz says PEDO a major source income for the province
\nPESHAWAR
\nKhyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Adviser on Planning and Development, Energy & Power and Mineral Dr Syed Sarfaraz Ali Shah has said that the energy sector in the province is very important and termed Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) ongoing projects game-changer for the regional development.
\nPEDO is a profitable organization of the province as it one of the major sources of annual income of billions of rupees, he said.
\nDr Syed Sarfaraz Ali Shah expressed these views while presiding over the review meeting organized on the occasion of visit to PEDO house.
\nThe meeting was informed that under the supervision of PEDO, work is currently underway on 42 energy projects of transmission lines including hydro and solar power.
\nAfter the completion of these projects, these will be proved to be a game changer for the stability and development of the economy of the province in future.
\nKhyber Pakhtunkhwa Transmission and Grid Company (KPT&GC) has been established for the first time in order to improve the electricity system in the province and to enable the delivery of its own electricity.
\nThe higher forums will be contacted soon to recover the arrears pending against federal government.
\nWhile giving a briefing, Chief Executive PEDO Engineer Naeem Khan said that PEDO has successfully completed 7 hydropower projects from which a total of 161 megawatts of electricity is being generated, from which the province is getting income of more than Rs. 4 billion annually.
\nHe further added that PEDO has prepared a business and financial plan for the next ten years, under which several projects of 2000 megawatts will be completed, from which the province is expected to earn Rs 50 billion annually.
\nFurthermore, several energy projects have entered in the final stages of completion.
\nPlans are also being made to sell the cheap electricity generated to the industrial sector at favorable rates under the wheeling model.
\nAt the end of the meeting, Dr. Sarfaraz expressed his satisfaction with the overall performance of PEDO and committed that the issues faced will be resolved on a priority basis at high-level forums, he concluded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
