\nAn earthquake struck Nepal\u2019s capital Kathmandu on Sunday morning. There were varying reports in the initial aftermath about the magnitude. Press Trust of India (PTI) reported that the magnitude was 6.1 on the Richter scale. But India\u2019s National Centre for Seismology (NCS) has said that the magnitude was 5.3. The European-Meditarranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) has said that the magnitude was 5.2.
\nThe epicentre of the earthquake was in Nepal\u2019s Dhading district. There was no immediate report of any casualty or damage.
\nMedia reports suggest that tremors were also felt in Nepal\u2019s Bagmati, Gandaki provinces and even in India\u2019s Delhi-National Capital Region (Delhi-NCR).
\nNepal experiences frequent earthquakes as the Himalayan country is located just where Tibetan and Indian tectonic plates meet. These plates advance two metres closer to one another every century. The massive pressure this movement generates gets released in the form of earthquakes.
\nOn October 16, an earthquake of magnitude 4.8 struck Nepal\u2019s sudurpaschim province.
\nIn the year 2015, a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake along with aftershocks had killed around 9000 people.
\nAccording to Nepal government\u2019s post-disaster needs assessment (PDNA), Nepal is the 11th most earthquake-prone country in the world.

\nAn earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on the Richter Scale, jolted Nepal on Sunday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
\nThis is the second quake that has struck the Himalayan nation in less than 24 hours.
\nThe NCS stated that the earthquake occurred at 17:18:57 IST on Sunday at a depth of 5 kilometres.
\nTaking to X, the NCS stated, \u201cEarthquake of Magnitude:4.3, Occurred on 22-10-2023, 17:18:57 IST, Lat: 28.03 & Long: 84.74, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Nepal\u201d
\nMeanwhile, earlier today, a strong quake of 5.3 also jolted Nepal. The NCS stated that the earthquake occurred at 07:24 am (IST) on Sunday at a depth of 10 kilometres.
