\nFormer finance minister Senator Ishaq Dar has been appointed as the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Election Cell chairman.
\nA notification in this regard was issued on Saturday by PML-N secretary general Ahsan Iqbal with the approval of Shehbaz Sharif.
\nSenior party leader Ahsan Iqbal issued the notification for his appointment on Saturday after the approval of party President Shehbaz Sharif.
\n\u201cWith the approval of the President PML-N, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar is hereby appointed as Chairman, Election Cell PML-N, for General Elections 2024,\u201d read the notification.
\nTaking to X, formerly Twitter, PML-N\u2019s spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the party\u2019s election related activities will further expedite after the latest appointment.
\nAnother PML-N leader Marriyum Aurangzeb uploaded the notification on her X account.
\nAs per the Marriyum\u2019s post, the head of the election cell will speed up the activities related to the elections of Muslim League (N).
\nAll related matters including receiving applications for party tickets, monitoring the election rules will be completed quickly by Ishaq Dar who had also chaired the parliamentary committee that drafted the Election Act 2017 passed by the Parliament, she added.
\nIt is pertinent to mention here that the PML-N has already invited applications from the interested candidates to contest the general elections.
\nPML-N, which was often found complaining about the absence of a level-playing following the disqualification and conviction of former prime minister and the party supremo Nawaz Sharif in corruption references, at last started its election campaign after their leader\u2019s return from London on October 21, 2023.
\nThe Supreme Court of Pakistan declared February 8, 2024, as the date for holding general elections across the country after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) submitted a notification in the Supreme Court pertaining to the polls date.
