\nCo-Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and former president Asif Ali Zardari has said that the general elections in the country should be held on time. In his statement, former president Asif Ali Zardari said that the country is moving towards transparent elections and the People\u2019s Party is fully prepared for it.
\nHe was of the view as the conditions in the country are conducive, elections should be held on time. He said that we have confidence in the Election Commission that it would conduct a transparent election.
\nThe former president said that the People\u2019s Party is the only party which is capable of contesting elections in any environment and will emerge as the majority party of the country on February 8. A day earlier, UK High Commissioner Jane Marriott called on PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari at Bilawal House in Karachi.
\nA party post uploaded on social media website X, formerly twitter, the former president was upbeat about the prospects of the PPP in the February 8 general elections. However, he expressed his party\u2019s concerns about level playing field in the run-up to elections.
\nThey said Mr Zardari told Ms Marriott that one party [PML-N] was being given priority treatment which belied claims of the caretaker government of giving level playing field in the elections. The British envoy asked the PPP leader about the party\u2019s strategy and the prospects of polls on Feb 8, the insiders added.
\nThe PPP post on X mentioned that the former president stressed the British government\u2019s role in bringing an end to the Israeli aggression in Gaza. Mr Zardari wished well King Charles on his birthday and congratulated former prime minister David Cameron on becoming foreign minister.
\nSources informed that the British diplomat was eager to understand the PPP\u2019s confidence regarding the prospects of elections on February 8. She also wanted to know the party\u2019s strategy for the upcoming national elections. PPP bigwigs have launched a series of remarks against the PMLN\u2019s performance in the 16-month stint of the PDM government.
\nAfter ruling 16 months in the coalition government, former allies of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), now become political \u2018rivals\u2019 as the political temperature has been brewing to its peak level with each passing day since ECP announced general elections to be held on February 8.
