World Children Day
\n PESHAWAR
\nTo mark the \u201cInternational Children\u2019s Day 2023\u201d, a ceremony was held on Monday at Government Shaheed Osama Zafar Centennial Model Higher School No. 2 Peshawar. The participants highlighted the importance of the day and said the United Nations convention on the rights of child was adopted by the UN general assembly on November 20, 1989 and since then the day is marked as International Day of Children throughout the globe.
\nThey added that legislation in the country for wellbeing and protection of children has been done rapidly after 1990 because Pakistan is a signatory of the international treaty called UNCRC and was the first Islamic country to sign it.
\nThe district Education Officers shared that during ongoing enrollment drive more than 4.5 lac out-of-school children were enrolled in government schools of Peshawar till date and the target was achieved successfully with the support of partner organizations like VSO, PRDS, NCHD and other development partners working in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
\nThe event was organized by Participatory Rural Development Society PRDS in collaboration with E&SE Department KP, Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) and Education Cannot Wait (ECW) wherein District Education Officer Peshawar Sajjad Akhtar, DEO (Female Schools) Safia Amin, School Principal Malik Mir Daud Khan, Deputy Director Establishment Mushtaq, DDEO Muhammad Arif, DDEO Dr. Raina Gul, Allama Iqbal Open University Regional Director Shafat-ur-Rehman, MYRP Program Manager Tariq Hayat Yousafzai and other officials were also present.
\nThe speakers said that the primary responsibility of the state, including all sections of the society, is to provide a better environment for children including education and health so that they can nourish well and become valuable citizens of society. Pakistan is bound to protect the rights of all children equally under the international laws.
\nOn this occasion, education officers said that during the admission campaign in Peshawar, 2 lakh 62 thousands male students and 1 lakh 93 thousand female students were enrolled in schools, which is more than that of last year. They added that School champions , teachers, parents and students also played a key role in making the enrolment campaign successful, the best performing teachers, community volunteers and children were awarded with gifts and certificates during the event. They vowed to continue their efforts in bringing more out of school children to the schools.
\nThe participants also expressed solidarity with the children, suffering from lack of facilities and facing other challenges in their lives and emphasized on taking concrete measures to protect the fundamental rights of all children.
