\nThe Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women (KPCSW) on Thursday vowed to continue its efforts to combat gender-based violence by raising awareness among masses.
\nThe Commission announced to continue its efforts, dedication and activism against gender-based violence, during the concluding ceremony of a 16-day global campaign against gender-based violence held here at the College of Home Economics.
\nThe event was started on November 27 at Frontier College for Women and University.
\nThe overarching theme for this year\u2019s campaign was \u201cUNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls,\u201d underscoring the imperative for collective action and investment in preventive strategies.
\nThe culminating event brought together esteemed academic officials, government representatives, and NGO delegates who united to support this crucial cause.
\nDuring the campaign a series of educational programs and workshops were organized by the KPCSW with an aim to promote understanding, address the root causes of gender-based violence, and cultivate a culture of respect and equality.
\nIn addition to educational programs, the KPCSW also collaborated with local communities and hosted events, seminars, and outreach programs throughout the 16-day campaign and fostered a sense of unity and shared responsibility in the fight against gender-based violence, ensuring active participation in building safer and more equitable communities.
\nOn the occasion the Secretary of KPCSW Robin Haider Bokhari emphasized that this year\u2019s theme aligned with the commission\u2019s mandate to eliminate violence against women and girls through investments in awareness, training of government officials, community advocacy, and proposing new laws and policies in the province.
\nThe Principal of the College of Home Economics Dr. Shahnaz Khattak expressed gratitude for the collaboration with the KPCSW and the honor of hosting the campaign\u2019s closing event.
\nShe emphasized the importance of awareness for young girls and women regarding their rights and the institutions supporting women\u2019s empowerment and also highlighted the significance of combating violence against women.
\nProf Dr Gohar Ali, former Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar was the Chief guest of the concluding ceremony.
