In a commendable achievement, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed a staggering 97% reduction in Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever cases in 2023 compared to the previous year. This success can be attributed to the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including healthcare workers, religious scholars, teachers and students.
\nAccording to a news report published on these pages, citing the provincial health department\u2019s report, out of 20,566 suspected cases reported this year, only 747 were confirmed to have the mosquito-borne ailment, showcasing the effectiveness of the implemented preventive measures. Notably, the province reported zero deaths due to dengue, a testament to the robust surveillance and management systems in place within hospitals.
\nNo death was recorded due to dengue in the province in the ongoing year because of the strong surveillance and management mechanism put in place in hospitals, the report maintained.
\nThis significant drop from 22,960 cases in 2022 underscores the dedication of healthcare workers, lady health workers, local clerics, teachers, and employees from various departments. Despite facing constraints in resources and funding, civil defence and other line departments demonstrated improved efficiency in tackling dengue, positioning Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the lowest number of cases among provinces.
\nThe meticulous dengue prevention campaign involved checking over 10 million houses, using larvicides in over 9,000 homes with confirmed larvae presence, and examining more than three million potential larval habitats as part of the dengue prevention campaign.
