\nCricket South Africa (CSA) officially announced Teeger\u2019s dismissal on Friday, citing concerns about potential protests and risks surrounding the tournament.
\nThe decision was made in anticipation of protests related to Israel\u2019s actions in Gaza, with CSA revealing that the focus might particularly target Teeger\u2019s position as captain, potentially leading to conflict or violence.
\nCSA, prioritising the safety of participants and spectators, explained the rationale behind the decision: \u201cCSA has a primary duty to safeguard the interests and safety of all those involved in the World Cup and must accordingly respect the expert advice of those responsible for the safety of participants and spectators.\u201d
\nSouth Africa had taken over the hosting rights from Sri Lanka for the U19 men\u2019s World Cup, following the latter\u2019s removal due to government interference in sports administration.
\nTeeger, previously honoured as the Rising Star at the ABSA Jewish Achiever Awards, dedicated the award to Jewish soldiers in Israel during an acceptance speech in October.
\nTeeger\u2019s remarks had stirred controversy, with pro-Palestine protestors reportedly questioning his selection outside Newlands in Cape Town before the New Year\u2019s Test between South Africa and India.
