\nElection fever has gripped Mardan district where tough electoral battle is expected between former Chief Minister Khyber Pakthunkhwa, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti and PTI backed former Provincial Minister Atif Khan on the national assembly constituency NA-22 Mardan-II.
\nAs only six days left in the general election 2024, the political parties and independent candidates expedited addressing rallies and corner meetings besides door to door campaigns to persuade voters. The candidates started using social media and floating advertisements in national newspapers for publicity.
\nAll eyes on NA-22 Mardan-II where ANP had awarded a ticket to former Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti who is being challenged by former KP senior minister Muhammad Atif Khan backed by PTI.
\nIn the 2013 general election, the constituency was won by Haider Hoti with 44,769 votes against PTI\u2019s Nasir Khan secured 42,068 votes. In the 2018 general election, Haider Hoti retained his seat with 78,911 votes defeating Atif Khan with only 35 votes. The political rivals are again contesting elections against each other and sought support of large tribes.
\nOn NA 21- Mardan-I, former MNA Mujahid Khan is contesting election as an independent candidate with the electoral symbol \u201cDove\u201d on NA-21-Mardan-1 who is being challenged by ANP, PPP and JUIF candidates.
\n In 2013 general election, Mujahid Khan secured 38,233 votes defeating Imdadullah Yousafzai of JUIF with 26,625 votes while in 2018 general election this constituency was again clinched by Mujahid Khan on PTI ticket with 78,140 votes against ANP\u2019s Gul Nawaz Khan with 38,712 votes.
\nOn NA-23-Mardan-3, former federal minister Ali Muhammad is flexing muscle independently with the electoral symbol \u201cDolphin\u201dwhile PTI\u2019s former MPA Toufail Anjum as independent candidate with the symbol \u201cPillow\u201d on PK-55, Mardan-2.
\nFormer MNA Ali Muhammad had won 2013 election of PTI ticket with 58,577 votes against 56 , 318 voters while JUIF Maulana Muhammad Qasim stood runner rup with 56,318 votes respectively. The constituency was won by the PTI founder with 76, 681 votes against Maulana Qasim\u2019s of JUIF with 68,181 votes.
\nAccording to ECP, the total registered voters in Mardan district stand at 1,538,078, including 696,382 women for whom 1,055 polling stations including 353 male, 319 female while 383 polling stations combined.
\nA total of 42 candidates, including two women, are in the run for all these three national assembly seats while about 105 candidates, including three women, are competing for eight provincial assembly seats in politically fertile Mardan district.
\nProfessor Dr A.H.Hilali, former Political Science Department, University of Peshawar while expecting split mandidates in Mardan said that young voters would play key role in deciding fates of ANP, JUIF, PPP, PTI, PMLN and others independents on February 8, 2024.
\nThe mainstream political parties including PTI, PMLN and PPP had already announced election manifestos that would play an important role in deciding the fate of their candidates on D-Day.
\n\u201cParticipation of women in voting is mandatory as per election laws and candidates have to work tirelessly to bring voters into polling stations on February 8, 2024,\u201dhe said.
\nMuhammad Ishaq, a resident of Moti Banda Mardan said that unemployment, poor sanitation and poverty were major challenges and candidates with solid programs for its resolution would be voted to power.
\nHe said that provision of clean drinking water and provision of loans to farmers for agriculture and livestock promotion would help generate employment opportunities besides alleviating poverty in rural areas.
\nHe demanded that Tehsil Katlang villages should be connected with Swat Motorway besides construction of a technical vocational institute to prepare the area\u2019s youth for overseas employment and promotion of industrialization.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
