\nYulia Navalnaya, the widow of late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, accused President Vladimir Putin of \u201csatanism\u201d on Saturday for not allowing the body to be returned to his family.
\nNavalny\u2019s mother Lyudmila has said authorities are threatening to bury him on the grounds of the Arctic prison colony where he died earlier this month if she did not agree to a \u201csecret\u201d funeral.
\n\u201cYou tortured him alive, now you torture him while he is dead,\u201d Yulia Navalnaya, who has vowed to continue her husband\u2019s work, said in a new video, published Saturday.
\nRussian authorities have said only that an investigation is ongoing and have previously criticized accusations from Navalnaya as \u201cunfounded and vulgar.\u201d
\nNavalnaya said on Saturday she believed the pressure being put on Navalny\u2019s mother was coming directly from Putin.
\n\u201cPutin is directing it all. It\u2019s Putin saying, \u2018Put pressure on the mother, break her, tell her the body of her son is rotting\u2019,\u201d she said.
\n\u201cThis is the same Putin that likes to show that he is a practicing Christian,\u201d she said.
\nPutin has for decades portrayed himself as a devoted Orthodox Christian and has in recent years focused on promoting what he calls \u201ctraditional values.\u201d
\n\u201cWhat Putin is doing now is hatred. No, not even hatred, it\u2019s some kind of satanism,\u201d Navalnaya said.
\n\u201cWe always knew that Putin\u2019s faith is fake, but now we can see it like never before,\u201d she added.
\nOn the anniversary of Russia launching its military offensive, the late Kremlin critic\u2019s wife also denounced Putin\u2019s decision to send troops into Ukraine.
\n\u201cYou will answer for all of this… And for this (Navalny\u2019s death) and for the war that you unleashed two years ago, also hiding behind Christian values,\u201d Navalnaya said.
