ISLAMABAD
\nVeteran diplomat and former chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shaharyar Khan passed away early in the morning in Lahore on Saturday. He was 89. The Foreign Office paid tribute to the diplomat \u2014 who performed many roles during his distinguished career between 1957 and 1994 at the foreign ministry, including foreign secretary, ambassador and high commissioner \u2014 and honoured his \u201cmonumental services in protecting Pakistan\u2019s diplomatic interests\u201d.
\nForeign Secretary Syrus Qazi said he was deeply saddened by Khan\u2019s passing and praised him as \u201cone of Pakistan\u2019s finest diplomats.\u201d
\nQazi said the deceased left behind a \u201crich legacy of accomplishment and protecting and promoting Pakistan\u2019s interests\u201d.
