\nMuhammad Faiq Shah, founder and chairman of the Amun Taraqqi Party strongly opposed imposition of additional taxes on poor and salaried, pensioners and increase in power tariff on dictation of IMF and asked the government to provide relief to people through upcoming fiscal budget.
\nAccording to reports, the International Monetary (IMF) has recommended Pakistan implement additional taxes of around Rs1.3 trillion in the upcoming budget.
\nAs per a news report, these potential taxes will raise the Federal Board of Revenue\u2019s (FBR) annual target to Rs12.3 trillion.
\nOne hand, the government has made a drastic cut in the price of petroleum products, on the other, under intense pressure from the IMF, it is mulling to impose an 18 per cent GST on petroleum products and carbon levy that would again jack up prices, Shah said in a statement here on Friday.
\nSimilarly, he said the government has prepared a plan to collect additional taxes of Rs360billion by making a giant increase in power tariff, which is completely unjust and unacceptable.
\nIt doesn\u2019t mean slapping additional taxes on the poor for meeting the tax-collection targets but should broaden the tax-base by bringing the elite class under it, Shah said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
