{"id":409095,"date":"2024-05-25T08:25:48","date_gmt":"2024-05-25T03:25:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/?p=409095"},"modified":"2024-05-25T08:25:48","modified_gmt":"2024-05-25T03:25:48","slug":"ban-on-courts-proceedings-reporting-ihc-issues-notice-to-pemra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/ban-on-courts-proceedings-reporting-ihc-issues-notice-to-pemra\/","title":{"rendered":"Ban on court\u2019s proceedings reporting: IHC issues notice to PEMRA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> ISLAMABAD<br \/>\nIslamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notice to PEMRA on the petitions filed against ban on court\u2019s proceedings reporting.<br \/>\nThe court has also restrained PEMRA from taking adverse action against TV channels.<br \/>\nA joint petition of Islamabad High Court Journalists Association and Press Association of Supreme Court came up for hearing before single bench of IHC led by Chief Justice (CJ) IHC Aamir Farooq here Friday.<br \/>\nBarrister Ijaz Gillani counsel for petitioners and Riasat Ali Azad president IHC Bar Association (IHCBA) appeared in the court.<br \/>\nIHC while issuing notice to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and secretary information adjourned the hearing of petitions till May 28.<br \/>\nThe court has issued notice on miscellaneous petition seeking suspension of PEMRA notification.<br \/>\nThe PEMRA notification was challenged in IHC.<br \/>\nA joint petition was filed by Islamabad High Court Journalists Association and Press Association of Supreme Court against ban on court\u2019s \u2018proceedings reporting.<br \/>\nPresidents of Islamabad High Court Journalists Association and Press Association of Supreme Court Aqeel Afzal and Fayyaz Mehmood had filed petition in IHC against PEMRA notification regarding ban on court\u2019s proceedings reporting. They had made information secretary and chairman PEMRA respondents.<br \/>\nThe petitioners had requested the court to nullify PEMRA notification declaring it unconstitutional besides suspending it till the final decision of the petition.<br \/>\nThe petitioners said PEMRA issued directives about court\u2019s proceedings through amended notification on May 21.
