\nSpecial Secretary Health Habibullah Khan visited Paraplegic center at Hayatabad Peshawar on the invitation of Center\u2019s Chairman Ziaur Rehman and apprised himself about the performance of this unique institution for the rehabilitation of patients suffering from spinal diseases in the entire of South Asia including Pakistan, Afghanistan and other developing neighbouring countries.
\nOn this occasion Dr. Syed Muhammad Ilyas, PCP\u2019s CEO, gave a detailed briefing about the services, performance and future plans of the Center.
\nHe said that despite the financial difficulties, the paraplegic center has never failed in providing adequate treatment facilities to the patients as well as their comprehensive physical and psychological rehabilitation.
\n\u201cEven in the most difficult situations, this health institution is providing absolutely free of charge services and equipment as per international standards to cure the children, men and women affected by spinal cord injuries, polio and club foot.
\nWhen asked about the problems faced by the Center, Dr Ilyas Syed said that due to the lack of beds, patients enlisted for the admission have to wait for months, for which increase in the number of beds is inevitable.
\nHowever, he said, in view of the financial difficulties of the provincial government, international donors assistance is being explored for this purpose.
\nDr. Ilyas also informed the Special Secretary Health about the future plans and revealed that the completion of the new paraplegic center building in FR Bannu and the expansion of the paraplegic center at Regi Model Town will greatly help in reducing the burden of patients on the institution.
\n\u201cThere will also be an opportunity to extend the scope of services, equipment and facilities to patients with head injuries, cerebral palsy and congenitally disabled (CP) children\u201d, he added.
\nHabibullah Khan while appreciating the excellent performance of the institution and the selfless services of the staff, assured the full cooperation on behalf of the health department and also expressed his best wishes for the development of the institution.
