\nA meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Uzma Makram and district health officer Dr Idrees discussed the dengue situation in the provincial capital.
\nHealth officials, entomologists, and representatives from relevant authorities attended the meeting.
\nThe meeting instructed health staff to distribute mosquito nets in hotspot areas and monitor clean water reservoirs in households.
\nThe forum was informed that mosquito nets are currently being distributed in the High-Risk Union Council.
\nThe daily movement of thousands of people in Peshawar increases the risk of dengue. Ongoing efforts include larvicide operations, dengue drug spraying, and awareness campaigns in 9 high-risk union councils.
\nAccording to the briefing, 108 cases of dengue were reported in August 2022, compared to 14 cases in August 2021. This year, only 8 cases were reported in August, with approximately 600 patients screened.
\nTen cases have been reported from Khyber Teaching Hospital, six from Lady Reading Hospital, four from North West and three from Mercy Teaching Hospital.
\nSo far in the year 2024, 31 dengue cases have been reported from across the district.
\nSo far, 18 men and 13 women have been affected by dengue in Peshawar. However, public awareness should still be emphasized so that people take precautions indoors and protect themselves from mosquito bites.
\nFor successful anti-dengue operations, the provision of other resources including HR in the field of dengue by the health department is indispensable.
