{"id":426971,"date":"2024-08-25T08:59:22","date_gmt":"2024-08-25T03:59:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/?p=426971"},"modified":"2024-08-25T08:59:22","modified_gmt":"2024-08-25T03:59:22","slug":"extension-in-judges-tenure-not-under-consideration-for-now-information-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/extension-in-judges-tenure-not-under-consideration-for-now-information-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"Extension in judges\u2019 tenure not under consideration \u2018for now\u2019: information minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cLegislative committee did not discuss any amendment regarding judiciary in recent days,\u201d says Attaullah Tarar<br \/>\n Islamabad<br \/>\nFederal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has clarified that the federal government is not considering any option to extend judges\u2019 tenure, rebutting speculations that the federal government is planning to introduce judiciary-centric legislation in parliament.<br \/>\nTarar made the statement amid rumours that incumbent government mulling amendments to extend the tenure of the judges and, make changes in the laws related to the top jurists appointments based on the principle of seniority.<br \/>\nThe speculations gained attraction after it emerged that the federal government is reportedly planning to summon a joint session on August 28 to introduce key legislation.<br \/>\nWhen questioned about the constitutional amendments in the pipeline on Geo News programme \u2018Naya Pakistan\u2019, Tarar categorically rejected the rumoured plans of the federal government to extend the chief justice\u2019s tenure.<br \/>\nHe further clarified that no constitutional amendment could be introduced during a joint session of the parliament.<br \/>\nThe federal minister added that there was neither any amendment pertaining to the judiciary under consideration nor the judges\u2019 extension.<br \/>\n\u201cLegislative Committee did not discuss any amendment regarding the judiciary in recent days,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nThe information minister said that the speculations were fictitious as President Asif Ali Zardari summoned a routine session of the parliament.
