\nRepublican presidential nominee Donald Trump has said he felt \u201cvery offended\u201d when Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed support for his election rival, US Vice President Kamala Harris.
\nAsked during an international economic forum in Vladivostok on Thursday if he had \u201ca favorite\u201d in the US election, Putin said that he will follow Biden\u2019s endorsement of Harris and \u201cwill support her as well.\u201d
\nPutin also said \u201cTrump imposed more sanctions on Russia than any president who came before him,\u201d and suggested that Harris \u201cwould maybe refrain from such actions.\u201d
\nSpeaking at a campaign rally in the city of Mosinee, Wisconsin, on Saturday, Trump slammed the White House for what he said was a false claim of Russian meddling in the election.
\n\u201cOh no, it\u2019s Russia, Russia, Russia all over again,\u201d Trump said, insisting that the conflict in Ukraine would never have happened if he was president at the time.
\n\u201cI knew Putin. I knew him well. And you know, he endorsed \u2013 I don\u2019t know if you saw the other day \u2013 he endorsed Kamala,\u201d Trump continued. \u201cI was very offended by that. I wonder why he endorsed Kamala.\u201d He described Putin as \u201ca chess player\u201d and said he was wondering if he had spoken about Harris \u201cwith a smile.\u201d
\nSome American news organizations, including CNN, have suggested that the Russian leader was \u201csimply trolling\u201d Harris. Putin\u2019s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, declined to clarify what the president meant, saying that US domestic politics was not a priority issue for the Kremlin.
\nHarris herself has not commented on the matter, while the White House has said Putin \u201cshouldn\u2019t be favoring\u201d any candidate.
\nDuring his reelection campaign, Trump repeatedly claimed that he would promptly arrange new peace negotiations between Moscow and Kiev and resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict \u201cin 24 hours.\u201d The Kremlin has remained skeptical, however, with Peskov saying recently that Trump had \u201cno magic wand\u201d and that the US should first stop sending weapons to Ukraine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
