\nThe international order is \u201cunder threat\u201d in ways not seen since the end of the Cold War, the heads of the U.K. and U.S. foreign intelligence services warned on Saturday.
\nThe chiefs of Britain\u2019s MI6 and America\u2019s CIA also said both countries stand together in \u201cresisting an assertive Russia and Putin\u2019s war of aggression in Ukraine.\u201d
\nMI6 boss Richard Moore and CIA chief Bill Burns also said in an op-ed in the Financial Times that there was work being done to \u201cdisrupt the reckless campaign of sabotage\u201d across Europe by Russia and to push for de-escalation in the Israel-Gaza war in the Middle East.
\nThey said they were \u201cworking ceaselessly\u201d for a cease-fire and hostage deal in the Gaza Strip.
\nThe two spy chiefs also said they saw the war in Ukraine coming \u201cand were able to warn the international community,\u201d in part by declassifying secrets to help Kyiv. Burns and Moore said their agencies \u201cexploited our intelligence channels to push hard for restraint and de-escalation.\u201d
\n\u201cStaying the course [in Ukraine] is more vital than ever,\u201d they said. Russian President Vladimir Putin \u201cwill not succeed in extinguishing Ukraine\u2019s sovereignty and independence,\u201d they said, adding that their agencies would continue aiding Ukrainian intelligence.
\nThey also said a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war \u201ccould end the suffering and appalling loss of life of Palestinian civilians and bring home the hostages after 11 months of hellish confinement.\u201d
