Despite limited resources, Pakistani athletes have consistently brought pride to the nation on the global stage. One such shining star is Shabana Khattak from Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who has made a name for herself through sheer dedication and hard work.
\nA former top athlete from Peshawar University, Shabana Khattak has made remarkable achievements in athletics, leaving an indelible mark on the sport. At the 2001 Islamic Solidarity Games in Iran, she won a silver medal in the 60-meter race, being the only female athlete representing Pakistan. Shabana also competed in the Commonwealth Games and represented Pakistan at the World University Games in Korea, where she excelled in the 100, 200, and 400 meters, earning praise from officials.
\nDespite the lack of resources, her passion for sports never wavered. She turned down multiple job offers from various departments, choosing instead to remain loyal to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, proudly continuing to represent her province. Today, Shabana khattak serves as the Director of Sports at Bacha Khan University, Charsadda, where she is nurturing the next generation of athletes, keeping her dream alive of introducing more talent to the world stage.
\nShabana\u2019s journey began during her school days when she participated in a range of sports, including volleyball, table tennis, and badminton. However, it was athletics that truly captured her heart. She set multiple records at the college and university levels, including a national record of 14.9 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, which still stands today.
\nShabana Khattak believes that Pakistan is a land full of hidden potential. She calls on the government to provide greater support and recognition for athletes, ensuring that talented individuals like her are not overlooked. Her story is a testament to determination and perseverance, proving what can be achieved when passion meets opportunity.
\nHowever, despite her monumental contributions, she has yet to receive the Presidential Award, an oversight that sports circles across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan consider a grave injustice.
\nShabana Khattak\u2019s contributions to athletics and her efforts in promoting sports at the educational level are invaluable.
