{"id":4325,"date":"2016-09-29T15:56:42","date_gmt":"2016-09-29T05:56:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/?p=4325"},"modified":"2016-09-29T15:56:42","modified_gmt":"2016-09-29T05:56:42","slug":"pm-tareen-challenged-ecps-jurisdiction-over-panama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/pm-tareen-challenged-ecps-jurisdiction-over-panama\/","title":{"rendered":"PM &#038; Tareen challenged ECP&#8217;s jurisdiction over panama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: New Pandora box has been opened regarding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf\u2018s (PTI) plea over Panama leaks issue as the lawyers of Prime Minister and Jahangir Tareen on Wednesday has challenged the jurisdiction of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).<br \/>\nAn exchange of harsh words between Chief Election Commissioner and Imran Khan\u2019s lawyer was taken place during the hearing.<br \/>\nPM\u2019s counsel Salman Aslam Butt said that we will respond to the allegations but first it should be decided whether ECP is eligible to hear the petitions or not.<br \/>\nThe CEC remarked to hold talks over ECP\u2019s jurisdiction first then precede the case.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) lawyer Latif Khosa accused that PML-N counsel wants to dictate ECP while Imran Khan\u2019s lawyer said that he accepts the authorities of ECP and ready to debate on the matter.<br \/>\nThe CEC expressed resentment and directed the lawyers to come with full preparation in next hearing.<br \/>\nSubsequently, hearing of the petitions against PM Nawaz, Imran Khan and Jahangir Tareen adjourned till October 10.<br \/>\nEarlier, Supreme Court (SC) removed objections of registrar over the pleas of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamat-e-Islami (JI) regarding Panama leaks issue.<br \/>\nChief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali heard the case in his chamber at SC in which he said that the decision of declaring the pleas admissible will be taken in open court.<br \/>\nEarlier this year, Panama Papers published documents leaked from database of a law firm called Mosack Fonseca that were studied by International Consortium of nvestigative Journalists.<br \/>\nThe documents named 140 world leaders including Nawaz Sharif\u2019s daughter and two sons as owners of different offshore companies.<br \/>\nShell companies generally go with connotation of association with illegal trasnference of money across countries. The paper however did not allege any person mentioned in the documents of using the offshore companies for evading taxes or breaking any law.<br \/>\nBut, different opposition parties, mainly Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf raised the issue and pressurized the government prompting the premier to form a parliamentary committee to finalise joint Terms of References in light of which the Supreme Court will probe the matter.<br \/>\nHowever, the 12-member committee has not been successful to agree on TORs after several meetings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: New Pandora box has been opened regarding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf\u2018s (PTI) plea over Panama leaks issue as the lawyers of Prime Minister and Jahangir Tareen on Wednesday has challenged the jurisdiction of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
