\nA British police probe into a triple stabbing at a Manchester railway station on New Year\u2019s Eve which injured three people is now being treated as \u201ca terrorist investigation\u201d, the city\u2019s top officer said on Tuesday.
\nCounter-terrorism officials have arrested a man who remains in police custody, and are searching an address where he recently lived in the northwestern English city, Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said.
\nThe suspect reportedly shouted \u201cAllah\u201d during what Hopkins called a \u201chorrific attack\u201d on three people, including a police officer, at Manchester Victoria station on Monday evening. A man and a woman, both in their 50s, are still being treated in hospital after sustaining \u201cserious\u201d injuries, while the officer was also stabbed in the shoulder, he added.
\n\u201cWe are treating this as a terrorist investigation which is being led by counter-terrorism officers with support from Greater Manchester police,\u201d Hopkins told a briefing.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey were working through the night to piece together the details of what happened and to identify the man who was arrested,\u201d he said, adding that an address in the Cheetham Hill area of the city was being searched.
\nPrime Minister Theresa May thanked emergency services for their \u201ccourageous response\u201d.
\nShe wrote on Twitter: \u201cMy thoughts are with those who were injured in the suspected terrorist attack in Manchester last night.\u201d

\nNo group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which happened at around 8:50pm (2050 GMT) when many revellers in the city would have been enjoying New Year\u2019s Eve celebrations.
\nWitness Sam Clack, 38, a BBC radio producer, said he heard the suspect shouting \u201cAllah\u201d before and during the attack.
\nHe added: \u201cHe shouted it before, he shouted it during it — \u2018Allah\u2019.\u201d
\nClack also quoted the suspect as saying: \u201cAs long as you keep bombing other countries, this sort of shit is going to keep happening.\u201d
\nThe witness said he heard the \u201cmost blood-curdling scream\u201d and looked down the platform to see the attack unfolding.
\n\u201cHe came towards me,\u201d he added. \u201cI looked down and saw he had a kitchen knife with a black handle with a good 12 inch (30-centimetre) blade.
\n\u201cIt was just fear, pure fear.\u201d
\nClack said police officers used a stun gun and pepper spray before \u201csix or seven\u201d officers jumped on the man.<\/p>\n
Video footage of the incident shows the male suspect being overpowered by the officers.<\/p>\n
Manchester police said he was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.<\/p>\n
The woman suffered injuries to her face and abdomen and the man was wounded in the abdomen, while a British Transport Police officer sustained a stab wound to the shoulder.<\/p>\n
Their injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening.<\/p>\n

The city\u2019s New Year celebrations went ahead in Albert Square despite the incident, with a firework display taking place as planned, though increased security was brought in.<\/p>\n
The city experienced a suicide attack in May 2017, when 22 people were killed and 139 wounded at a concert by the US singer Ariana Grande at the Manchester Arena.<\/p>\n
