PESHAWAR : The provincial assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wednesday referred two questions of Fakhar-e-Azam Wazir of PPP to standing committee on Zakat & Usher for conducting inquiry into the irregularities in the distribution of Zakat and selection of the members of local zakat committees.
\nThe assembly resumed proceedings with Deputy Speaker, Dr. Meher Taj Roghani in the chair.
\nSpeaking on his question regarding irregularities in the distribution of Zakat Fund in his home district Bannu, the PPP MPA stated that the detail information provided to the house lacking the numbers of the Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) and complete address of the beneficiaries.
\nHe said that in a situation when no one can move in the province without identity cards, then how the persons succeeded in getting zakat fund and requested the chair to refer the question to standing committee to conduct inquiry into the matter.
\nThe Provincial Minister for Zakat & Usher, Habib-ur-Rehman opposed the referring of the question to the standing committee and asked the PPP legislator to select 5 to 6 beneficiaries to conduct inquiry into matter. However, he later agreed with the demand of the member to refer the matter to the standing committee concerned.
\nThe second question referred to the standing committee was irregularities in the selection of the members of local zakat committees. The mover said that instead of selecting members from different villages of the union councils, Zakat & Usher Department has selected members from the same village.
\nThe Provincial Minister opposed the referring of the matter to the standing committee and denied any such irregularity in the election of zakat committees. He said that criteria for the election of the members of zakat committees under Zakat, Usher Act, 2011 is that the member should be local and have attained the age of puberty with qualification of Secondary School Certificate (SSC).? The member should also be financially stable, having good character and not involved in anti-social activities.
\nOn the insistence of the MPA for referring the matter to the standing committee, the minister lost temper and said that why the matter should not be referred to 100 standing committees to conduct inquiry. However, later he once again agreed for referring the matter to the standing committee. The Deputy Speaker put the issue to verbal vote and the house agreed with the referring of the matter to the standing committee.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
