Islamabad(PR): The Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund and KfW, the German Development Bank, signed off on minutes of the next phase of the \u2018Livelihood Support and Promotion of Small Community Infrastructure Program\u2019 (LACIP II) to be funded by KfW. The event took place at the end of an appraisal mission to PPAF headed by Mr. Jens Clausen, Head of Division, Governance & Peace, KfW Frankfurt.
\nFollowing bilateral government consultations on development cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Federal Republic of Germany held in September 2015, a new commitment of EUR 10,000,000 has been granted for LACIP II.
\nThe project would be executed in three years and would contribute to greater political participation of villagers in decision making in tehsil and village councils by supporting the implementation of decentralization reform in selected districts of KP.
\nThis project is expected to benefit 325,000 persons and would be an extension to LACIP I which is being implemented in eight districts of KP for infrastructure development, livelihood support and disaster preparedness and mitigation interventions for the benefit of 600,000 persons.
\nMr. Clausen commended the work done by PPAF and expressed his confidence that LACIP II would support PPAF\u2019s explicit pro-poor, community based development efforts and help the newly established local government entities in the project\u2019s districts.
\nJens Clausen said, \u201cIt gives me great pleasure that the Government of Germany continues its development journey with Pakistan through PPAF in the form of a second phase of LACIP. Building on the successes and teamwork of LACIP I, and focusing on the most deprived regions of KPK, we believe that LACIP II will contribute to very positive changes in the lives of poor communities of the region.\u201d

\nPPAF and KfW have been working together for over a decade for the benefit of marginalized communities in various parts of the country. PPAF interventions are aimed at providing access to basic infrastructure and income generation facilities to the poor communities in the country.
\nPPAF is the lead apex institution for community-driven development in the country and the largest source of pro-poor spending outside the Public Sector Development Programme and the Federal budget. Set up as a fully autonomous private sector institution, PPAF enjoys facilitation and support from the Government of Pakistan, the World Bank, IFAD, USAid, USDA, KfW and the US corporate sector. PPAF projects now extend throughout water and infrastructure, drought mitigation, education, health and emergency response interventions and have been widely recognized.
