\nIn observance of World Audiology Day, Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar organized a practical workshop on new concepts in Audiology.
\nThe workshop, titled \u201cCochlear Implants: New Concepts in Audiology,\u201d was held by the Audiology Department of the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IPMR), KMU, in line with similar activities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the rest of the country.
\nThe event\u2019s chief guest was Dr. Syed Muhammad Ilyas, CEO of Paraplegic Centre Peshawar. The gathering was also attended by Dr. Zili Huma, Director of Academics, Dr. Irfanullah, Director of IPMR, along with faculty members and a large number of students.
\nIt is worth mentioning that audiology is a medical field related to the structure of the ears, hearing problems, their diagnosis, treatment, and hearing rehabilitation. Audiologists use various technologies and techniques to treat hearing issues such as deafness or hearing loss.
\nMeanwhile, in his keynote address, Dr. Syed Muhammad Ilyas shed light on the profound impact of hearing on overall human health. He emphasized the importance of adopting an interdisciplinary approach in healthcare, urging the government to develop a comprehensive strategy to ensure public health.
\nHe highlighted the five key pillars of healthcare\u2014promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative, and palliative care\u2014underscoring the need for an integrated approach to improve treatment quality and enhance the dignity of healthcare professionals.
\nOther speakers included cochlear implant surgeon Dr. Ihsanullah, and senior audiologists Ihsan Saeed, Muhammad Jehangir Badar, Sohail Ahmed, Kashif Ali Shah, and Rafiq Ahmed. They provided detailed insights into the effectiveness of cochlear implants in treating hearing impairments.
