\nTuberculosis, commonly known as TB, remains a serious disease worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), TB is a significant global health crisis, ranking as the third leading cause of human health impacts among diseases and a major cause of death.
\nThis was expressed by Ajmal Parvez on Saturday.
\nHe expressed that in 2023, millions of TB cases were reported globally, with most cases occurring in underdeveloped countries. Lack of healthcare facilities and poverty are significant contributors to the spread of this disease, he added. He said that Pakistan is among the countries where TB is prevalent.
\nHe expressed that common symptoms of TB include, Persistent cough lasting two weeks or more, Coughing up blood, Weight loss and feeling weak, Excessive night sweats, Fever, particularly at night and Chest pain or difficulty breathing.
\nOn the occasion he shares that we can protect ourselves with first and most effective preventive step is vaccination and the BCG vaccine is usually given to infants shortly after birth. Clean environments and personal hygiene are crucial to preventing TB. A balanced diet helps build strong immunity. Stay away from close contact with infected individuals. Since TB is contagious, wearing masks while coughing or sneezing is essential to prevent its spread.
\nHe expressed that TB diagnosis and treatment are entirely free and supported by the government and global health organizations. If someone shows symptoms of TB, they should immediately contact the nearest health center. Tests like sputum analysis and medications are provided free of charge.
\nIn Pakistan, health teams are actively working to eradicate TB. They are not only raising awareness but also ensuring free treatment and medication for patients, he added.
\nCollaborative efforts by the government and non-governmental organizations are being made to fight TB effectively.
\nHe expressed that although TB is a serious disease, it is both preventable and treatable if timely measures are taken. Awareness within the community can lead to successful management and control of the disease.
\nRole of Family Members:
\nThe family of TB patients needs to adopt a positive attitude. Instead of fearing a positive TB diagnosis, they should ensure that the patient completes their treatment. Families must ensure the patient regularly visits the TB center for treatment until fully cured. He said Treatment should not be discontinued midway. By maintaining supportive behavior towards patients, TB can be effectively eradicated.
