PESHAWAR: In a groundbreaking initiative to ease the financial burden on patients, Peshawar General Hospital has developed a locally manufactured suture anchor costing just Rs 50. As per details, the innovation offers a cost-effective alternative to the imported Socher anchor, which typically costs around Rs 70,000. Led by Dr Khaliqur Rehman, Head of the Orthopedic Department, the hospital\u2019s team designed the anchor using 16 to 18 gauge cerclage wire. This device is primarily used in surgeries requiring the reattachment of soft tissues, such as tendons and ligaments, to bone. According to hospital spokesperson Rumisa Ahmed, the anchor has already been used successfully in surgeries for 20 patients, demonstrating excellent results.
\nShe noted that the innovation not only reduces the cost of treatment but also exemplifies the hospital\u2019s commitment to addressing the economic challenges faced by patients.
