\nPrime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, on Friday, stressed the importance of strengthening collaboration with the United Nations in addressing the critical issues of sustainable development and climate change.
\nDuring a meeting with UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan Mohamed Yahya, the PM reaffirmed Pakistan\u2019s commitment to combating climate change, highlighting the need for continued partnership with the international community and the UN.
\nThe prime minister commended the valuable work being carried out by the UN\u2019s team in Pakistan, particularly their efforts during the country\u2019s climate-related challenges.
\nHe also extended his warm regards to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, recalling his leadership and the vital support he garnered for Pakistan during the devastating floods of 2022.
\nA key point of discussion was the need for climate financing, which PM Shehbaz emphasised as a crucial component in addressing the impacts of climate change.
\nHe urged developed nations to honour their financial commitments to the cause, underscoring the significance of fulfilling these obligations to support climate mitigation and adaptation efforts globally.
\nPakistan\u2019s continued collaboration with the UN was also emphasised, particularly in implementing various climate change projects. Additionally, the prime minister stressed the importance of bridging the financing gap to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
\nHe further advocated for the increased representation of developing countries in international financial institutions, calling for reforms in the global financial architecture to better reflect the needs of emerging economies.
