\nIn a major initiative to modernize policing, Inspector General (IG) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed has announced the launch of an online criminal record system, similar to the Punjab Policing system in the province.
\nFor the first time, criminal data, jail records, surety details, complete addresses, and affiliations will be available online, allowing law enforcement to access an accused person\u2019s record with a single click. The project has been initiated across the province, with the first phase focusing on digitalization and the second phase aimed at enhancing the investigation department.
\nSpeaking to reporters, KP police chief Zulfiqar Hameed stated that the use of technology will significantly improve policing efficiency and crime tracking. He emphasized the need to strengthen the investigation department, noting that staff shortages will be addressed through a recruitment plan soon to be proposed to the provincial government.
\nThe absence of a centralized online criminal database has long been a challenge for KP Police, leading to difficulties in tracking repeat offenders and dismantling organized criminal networks.
\nCurrently, police rely on a traditional manual process, contacting various stations for records, which often leads to delays and weak FIRs, allowing suspects to evade justice.
