\nThe United States announced sanctions on multiple entities and individuals in Iran, China, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), accusing them of being part of an Iranian weapons procurement network.
\nThe move is part of President Donald Trump\u2019s renewed efforts to increase pressure on Tehran.
\nThe US Treasury Department, in coordination with the Department of Justice, imposed sanctions on six entities and two individuals, citing their involvement in procuring unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) components for a leading manufacturer in Iran\u2019s drone program.
\n\u201cIran\u2019s proliferation of UAVs and missiles\u2014both to its terrorist proxies in the region and to Russia for its use against Ukraine\u2014continues to threaten civilians, US personnel, and our allies and partners,\u201d Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement.
\n\u201cTreasury will continue to disrupt Iran\u2019s military-industrial complex and its proliferation of UAVs, missiles, and conventional weapons that often end up in the hands of destabilizing actors, including terrorist proxies.\u201d
\nIran\u2019s mission to the United Nations in New York did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
\nThe latest sanctions target one Iran-based entity and two Iranian individuals, as well as one China-based and four UAE-based entities, according to the Treasury Department.
\nTuesday\u2019s action marks the second round of sanctions against \u201cIranian weapons proliferators\u201d since Trump reintroduced his \u201cmaximum pressure\u201d campaign. His administration aimed to curb Iran\u2019s nuclear ambitions by cutting its oil exports to zero and enforcing strict sanctions.
\nIn a February memorandum, Trump directed Bessent to intensify economic measures against Iran, including strict enforcement mechanisms against those violating existing sanctions.
\nOver the weekend, Trump warned Iran of possible bombing and secondary tariffs if it did not negotiate with Washington on its nuclear program.
\nDuring his first term from 2017 to 2021, Trump withdrew the US from the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, which had imposed strict limitations on Tehran\u2019s uranium enrichment activities in exchange for sanctions relief.
\nHe also reimposed sweeping US sanctions, prompting Iran to exceed the agreement\u2019s enrichment limits.
