{"id":471667,"date":"2025-04-11T08:35:40","date_gmt":"2025-04-11T03:35:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/?p=471667"},"modified":"2025-04-11T08:35:40","modified_gmt":"2025-04-11T03:35:40","slug":"mineral-amendment-bill-threat-to-provincial-autonomy-qwp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leadpakistan.com.pk\/news\/mineral-amendment-bill-threat-to-provincial-autonomy-qwp\/","title":{"rendered":"Mineral amendment bill threat to provincial autonomy: QWP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DLP Report<br \/>\nPESHAWAR<br \/>\nExpressing serious concern over the proposed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mines and Minerals Act 2025, Provincial Chairman of the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP), Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao, strongly opposed the inclusion of federal involvement in what he termed as a purely provincial subject.<br \/>\nAddressing a party meeting held at Watan Kor, Peshawar, Sherpao said the proposed legislation undermines the spirit of the 18th Constitutional Amendment and threatens the hard-earned provincial autonomy.<br \/>\n\u201cGiving the federation a role in this matter is not only unconstitutional but also a direct attack on the rights of the province,\u201d he asserted.<br \/>\nThe meeting was convened to thoroughly review the provisions of the proposed Mines and Minerals Act 2025. Party members unanimously rejected the draft, declaring it against the interests of KP.<br \/>\nSherpao emphasized that even the notification of strategic minerals lies within the domain of the province, and any interference by the federal government would not be acceptable.<br \/>\nCalling the draft legislation a \u201cconspiracy to usurp provincial rights,\u201d Sherpao criticized the provincial government for its failure to safeguard the region\u2019s resources.<br \/>\nHe said, \u201cDespite having no previous federal role, this proposed law seeks to reduce the powers gained through the 18th Amendment.
