\nPakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Ladies Wing President and Member of the Provincial Assembly, Madame Faryal Talpur, has sharply criticized the federal government over the initiation of canal projects in Sindh without due consultation. Speaking at a major public gathering at Rawal House, the residence of PPP Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Talpur said these controversial projects pose a serious threat to the rights and resources of Sindh\u2019s people.
\nTalpur declared that the PPP has always stood firmly against such unilateral moves, raising its voice at every forum \u2014 from Parliament to public rallies. \u201cThese canal projects are not merely a provincial issue \u2014 they are of national importance,\u201d she stated. \u201cUnfortunately, our political opponents are using this issue to score points rather than genuinely safeguarding public interests.\u201d
\nShe reiterated the strong opposition expressed by President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, both in Parliament and in public, regarding the construction of six new canals. \u201cThe PPP has a proud legacy of standing with the people \u2014 whether it\u2019s sacrificing lives for democracy or restoring constitutional rights,\u201d Talpur said. \u201cWe will not let anyone deprive Sindh of its water rights in the name of development.\u201d
\nTalpur also issued a powerful call for public mobilization ahead of the PPP\u2019s grand rally in Hyderabad on April 18, to be led by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. \u201cThis rally will be a clear message to those who seek to undermine Sindh\u2019s rights \u2014 the people will resist all forms of injustice,\u201d she asserted. \u201cThis is not just a political gathering; it\u2019s a declaration of unity and strength.\u201d
\nPPP Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon also addressed the gathering, warning rivals that they will face defeat on April 18. \u201cInstead of spreading baseless propaganda against the PPP leadership, our opponents should focus on the real issues facing the people,\u201d he said.
\nPPP Sindh President Nisar Khuhro condemned the canal project decisions, warning that they could lead to dangerous consequences.
\nSenator Aijaz Dhamrah echoed these sentiments, stating that the PPP completely rejects the proposed canal constructions.
\nOther prominent figures in attendance included Sindh\u2019s Minister for Works, Services and Prisons Haji Ali Hassan Zardari, Thatta District President Sadiq Ali Memon, and Vice President Abdul Hameed Panhwar, among others.
