\nUS President Donald Trump called for punitive action against CBS and its parent company Paramount following a \u201c60 Minutes\u201d broadcast that featured critical segments on Ukraine and Greenland.
\nPosting on his Truth Social platform, Trump accused the long-running news show of acting as a \u201cdishonest political operative\u201d and demanded the network face \u201cmaximum fines and punishment,\u201d including potential revocation of its broadcast licence.
\n\u201cThey are not a \u2018News Show,\u2019 but a dishonest Political Operative simply disguised as \u2018News,\u2019\u201d the president wrote, urging Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr \u2013 a Trump appointee \u2013 to intervene.
\nThe episode featured an interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who pushed back on Trump\u2019s repeated false claims that Ukraine instigated the ongoing war with Russia and that Zelenskyy is a \u201cdictator.\u201d
\n\u201cI believe, sadly, Russian narratives are prevailing in the US,\u201d Zelenskyy said during the segment. Another report focused on Greenland, where local residents criticised Trump\u2019s past remarks suggesting the US should acquire the autonomous Danish territory.
\nAqqaluk Lynge, a Greenlandic Inuit leader, called Trump\u2019s previous comments in Congress \u201cugly\u201d and said they were noted by \u201call of us\u201d in Greenland.
\nTrump, who has previously sued CBS over a separate interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris, claimed Sunday\u2019s broadcast was part of an ongoing media campaign to damage him politically.
\n\u201cCBS is out of control, at levels never seen before, and they should pay a big price for this,\u201d he wrote.
