\nIn a major relief for thalassemia patients across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the provincial government has decided to include thalassemia treatment under the Sehat Card Plus program.
\nThe announcement was made by Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Information, during an event marking World Thalassemia Day at Alkhidmat Hospital, Peshawar.
\nMr Saif stated that the decision was made in line with the vision of former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan and after consultations with the Chief Minister.
\nHe affirmed that the provincial government was committed to expanding healthcare access and will also facilitate NGOs and organizations actively working in the thalassemia sector.
\n\u201cThalassemia is not just a medical condition\u2014it is a national and social challenge,\u201d said Saif.
\nHe called on civil society, media, and religious institutions to join hands in raising awareness, particularly through FM radio, social media, and Friday sermons.
\nHe revealed that coordination was underway with the Ministry of Religious Affairs to encourage imams and religious scholars to educate the public about the causes and prevention of thalassemia through their sermons.
\nHe also addressed prevalent myths about blood donation, stressing the need for public education to eliminate misconceptions.
\n\u201cDonating blood is safe, and the belief that it weakens the body or is religiously forbidden must be corrected,\u201d he said.
\nHe encouraged citizens to actively participate in health advocacy. \u201cGovernance is most effective when people take ownership. Thalassemia is not just a government issue; it is a collective responsibility,\u201d he added.
