\nMinister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, has reiterated Pakistan\u2019s resolve to enhance efforts for the social and economic protection of the country\u2019s labour class.
\nRepresenting Pakistan at the 113th session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva today, alongside Secretary Workers Welfare Fund Zulfiqar Ahmad, the Minister emphasised that Pakistan remains among the nations where labour rights are fully safeguarded.
\nChaudhry Salik Hussain highlighted the challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence and the digital economy, particularly to craftsmen. He reaffirmed the Government of Pakistan\u2019s commitment to equipping youth with market-relevant skills, knowledge, and education, enabling them to secure employment on digital platforms.
\nHe assured that Pakistan will continue to uphold social and economic justice while providing equal opportunities to both domestic and overseas workers.
\nDuring the opening of the conference, Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Gilbert F. Houngbo, emphasized the collective commitment of the ILO and its member countries to ensuring social protection, occupational health and safety, and new employment opportunities for workers.
\nIt is pertinent to mention that the inaugural session was attended by delegates from 187 countries.
\nThe conference, scheduled to conclude on June 13, features a comprehensive agenda, including adoption of a new convention and recommendations on protection against biological hazards in the workplace and discussions on decent work in the platform economy, aimed at regulating gig and digital platform employment.
