Recounting terrorists attacks in Pakistan, Gen Kurilla says they are \u201cin active counter-terrorism fight right now\u201d
\n WASHINGTON
\nUS Central Command chief General Michael Erik Kurilla has described Pakistan as a key partner in the war on terror.
\nAddressing US Senate Armed Services Committee meeting, General Michael Kurilla said that the entire world recognizes Pakistan\u2019s positive and proactive role in fight against terrorism.
\nHe said that relations with Pakistan are vital to US national security. Michael Kurilla has praised Pakistan\u2019s role in the fight against terrorism.
\nGeneral Kurilla said; \u201cISIS Khorasan is currently one of the most active terrorist organizations in the world.\u201d
\nHe said the United States cannot afford to break ties with Pakistan for the sake of India. He said that the US, in cooperation with Pakistan, has been conducting successful operations against IS.
\nGeneral Kurilla lauded that Pakistan has arrested at least five senior IS leaders. He also confirmed that Pakistan handed over the main suspect in the Kabul Airport bombing to the United States. \u201cWith Pakistan\u2019s continued cooperation, the US is now close to crushing IS\u201d, General Kurilla said.
\nHe said Pakistan has emerged as an exceptional counter-terrorism partner. General Kurilla acknowledged that \u201cclose intelligence cooperation with Pakistan has resulted in the killing and arrest of dozens of ISIS-K terrorists.\u201d
\nHe said these arrests include at least five of the organization\u2019s most wanted leaders.
\nGeneral Kurilla said Pakistani authorities have provided the US with several important successes through intelligence sharing. He said these successes include the arrest and extradition of the mastermind of gate bombing Jafar.
\nGeneral Kurilla said immediately after his arrest, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir personally contacted and informed US authorities.
\nHe said Pakistan continues operations against ISIS-K through limited but effective intelligence sharing. General Kurilla said the terrorist group is currently active in the border zone between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
\nGeneral Kurilla said Pakistan\u2019s partnership was proving to be extremely important and effective in the global context of counter-terrorism.
\nSince the beginning of 2024, more than 1,000 terrorist attacks have occurred in the western regions of Pakistan and about 700 security personnel and civilians have been killed and 2,500 injured in these attacks in Pakistan.
\nGeneral Kurilla said ISIS Khorasan has been weakened and its activities have decreased, adding that main reason for this is the heavy losses they have suffered in recent months. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
