ISTANBUL
\nTurkey on Friday urged Israel to stop \u201caggressive actions\u201d following a wave of strikes on Iran that comes at a time of negotiations over the Islamic republic\u2019s disputed nuclear programme.
\nAnkara strongly condemned the Israeli airtrikes as a \u201cclear violation of international law\u201d and called it a \u201cprovocation that serves Israel\u2019s strategic policy of destabilisation in the region.\u201d
\n\u201cIsrael must put an immediate end to its aggressive actions that could lead to further conflicts,\u201d Turkey\u2019s foregn ministry said in a statement.
\nIn May, Istanbul played host to nuclear negotiations between Iran and European powers.
\n\u201cThe fact that the strikes come at a time of intensified negotiations on Iran\u2019s nuclear programme shows that the (Benjamin) Netanyahu government is unwilling to resolve any issue through diplomatic means and is not averse to putting regional stability and global peace at risk for its own interests,\u201d the foreign ministry said. \u201cWe call on the international community to take urgent action to prevent the spread of war,\u201d it added. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
