\nKhyber Pakhtunkhwa\u2019 government has earmarked Rs328.865 billion for the elementary and secondary education department for the fiscal year 2025-26.
\nProvincial minister for education Faisal Khan Tarakai on Wednesday said that the provincial government led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has increased 13 per cent budget for education sector from the previous year.
\n\u201cThis includes a current side budget of Rs303.583 billion and a development budget of Rs23.28 billion,\u201d he said.
\nPresiding over the Annual Development Programme (ADP) review meeting, the minister revealed that 24 schemes were nearing completion with over 91pc work finalized, and all were expected to be completed within the current financial year.
\nThe 2025-26 ADP includes 96 education projects, 37 ongoing and 20 new in settled districts. In the Accelerated Implementation Programme (AIP), 14 ongoing and 5 new projects are listed, while the ADP for merged areas features 16 ongoing and 4 new projects.
\nKey new allocations including Rs300 million for land acquisition for new schools, Rs855 million for rehabilitation of 10 historic schools, Rs100 million for launching tele-education, Rs1.2 billion for the Education Emergency School Support Program, Rs200 million for teacher licensing and Rs100 million for teacher induction training, and Rs500 million each for early childhood education (ECE) rooms and smart classrooms, Rs826 million for model schools in southern districts, and Rs1.5 billion for completion of 50 schools in merged districts.
\nThe government plans to establish 41 new primary schools, 12 secondary schools, and upgrade 31 primary schools to middle level and 23 middle schools to high level.
\nAdditionally, 71 examination halls and 64 science labs in merged districts will be completed this year, alongside two cadet colleges in settled districts and three model schools in merged areas.
\nMajor infrastructure efforts include the construction of 500 additional classrooms and boundary walls and washrooms in 120 schools of merged districts, as well as 500 more classrooms in two-room primary schools.
\nHighlighting flagship initiatives, Minister Tarakai announced the establishment of a Girls Cadet College in D.I. Khan, completion of construction at Girls Credit College Mardan, and a new Cadet College in Lakki Marwat. A monthly scholarship program for students in merged districts is also part of the plan.
\nAdditional programs include the Human Capital Investment Project, solarization of schools, reconstruction of damaged schools in Bara (Khyber), distribution of school bags and free textbooks, establishment of Swabi Model School, and upgrading 150 schools across various levels.
\nEmphasizing inclusivity, Rs5 billion has been allocated to bring out-of-school children back into the education system. New initiatives such as the Taleem Card and Tele-Taleem are also set to launch this year.
