\nIn response to recent climate-induced disasters across Swat, Dir, Malakand, and the Hazara region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has ordered a large-scale anti-encroachment operation throughout the province to safeguard public life, property, and natural drainage systems.
\nA notification issued by the Chief Minister\u2019s Secretariat highlights the continued presence of unauthorized structures, illegal constructions, and solid waste dumping along riverbanks and stormwater drains (nullahs), which have obstructed water flow, exacerbated flood risks, and endangered public safety. Despite repeated advisories, the violations persist, necessitating urgent and uncompromising action.
\nDistrict administrations have been instructed to immediately remove illegal constructions from rivers, streams, and natural waterways, especially with the monsoon season underway.
\nSpeaking on behalf of the Chief Minister, CM\u2019s spokesperson Faraz Mughal stated that the operation will be executed in a decisive and indiscriminate manner, with no exemptions. \u201cCommissioners and Deputy Commissioners have been tasked with directly supervising the operation to ensure full and effective implementation,\u201d he said.
\nAll relevant departments, including Irrigation, Revenue, and Local Government, have been directed to assist with the mapping and demarcation of riverbanks and waterways to prevent future encroachments.
\n\u201cThe field teams must submit comprehensive reports within 10 days, supported by geotagged photographic evidence and departmental verification,\u201d the spokesperson added.
