Meena Khan says bridge academia-industry gap key priority

\nThe Department of Higher Education has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Code for Pakistan, and the Industries Association Peshawar to facilitate quality internship opportunities for students.
\nA graceful yet modest ceremony was held on this occasion, attended by the Minister for Higher Education, Archives & Libraries, Mr. Meena Khan Afridi, the Secretary of Higher Education, and senior officials from the partnering organizations.
\nAddressing the event, Minister Afridi stated that today, we have taken a concrete and impactful first step toward bridging the gap between industry and academia, ensuring that the youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are prepared to meet the demands of the real world. He further informed that currently, over 120,000 students are enrolled across 30 different BS programs in the province, where they are not only receiving quality education but also being equipped with essential practical skills.
\nMr. Afridi emphasized that, under the new Higher Education Commission Policy, it is mandatory for every student to complete three credit hours of internship, ensuring that graduates enter the job market not merely as degree holders but as skilled and employable professionals. He also highlighted the government\u2019s initiative of providing completely free education to first- and second-year female students in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the aim of empowering women to play a stronger role in social development.
\nSpeaking about the evolving global landscape, the minister stressed that in this era of artificial intelligence and advanced technology, it is essential to equip our youth not just with degrees but with the skills necessary to compete in the global marketplace.
\nMeena Khan Afridi concluded by stating that the signed MoU reflects the vision of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to develop a capable, skilled, and conscious workforce.
