\nIn a major healthcare development, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Health, Ihtisham Ali, has approved the provision of cardiac services at Mardan Medical Complex (MMC) under the Sehat Card Plus scheme, marking another revolutionary step for the people of Mardan.
\nThe State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan, in coordination with the Health Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has conditionally allowed MMC-MTI Mardan to offer cardiology services to heart patients under the government\u2019s flagship health insurance program.
\nThe approval will be effective for an initial period of six months \u2014 from July 10, 2025, to January 10, 2026.
\nAccording to the official letter issued by State Life, the hospital has been permitted to provide cardiology services. However, the approval is subject to the availability of cardiac surgery facilities, which are essential in emergency situations. The hospital must ensure these surgical services to maintain uninterrupted cardiology coverage under the Sehat Card.
\nThe letter further states that the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and medical admissions at the facility are already operational. However, the continued functioning of the Cath Lab will depend on the provision of surgical support and related infrastructure. State Life has instructed the hospital administration to ensure the availability of a qualified on-call interventional cardiologist (for primary PCI), a dedicated medical officer, trained staff, and a 24\/7 Cath Lab technician.
\nA complete list of designated staff must also be submitted promptly. It is important to note that the hospital has been given a deadline of January 10, 2026 to address the deficiencies related to cardiac surgery services and submit the required compliance report.
\nFailure to meet these requirements may result in the discontinuation of Cath Lab services under the Sehat Card program.
