\nAdvisor to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Information and Public Relations, Barrister Dr. Muhammad Ali Saif, visited the Directorate of Civil Defence Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where he reviewed the department\u2019s training programs, volunteer services, and operational preparedness.
\nSpeaking on the occasion, Barrister Dr. Saif emphasized that Civil Defence is not confined to wartime activities but serves as a frontline institution during natural disasters and humanitarian crises. He praised the department\u2019s quiet yet vital contributions, terming its services \u201ccommendable and invaluable.\u201d
\n\u201cThe Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is fully committed to modernizing the Civil Defence system,\u201d he said. \u201cWe will utilize all available resources to transform it into a dynamic, professional, and responsive institution.\u201d
\nHe paid rich tribute to the department\u2019s officers and volunteers, calling them \u201ca proud asset of the province\u201d and \u201cexemplary symbols of selfless service.\u201d
\nDirector Civil Defence KP, Mr. Syed Zahid Usman Kakakhel, briefed the advisor on the department\u2019s ongoing initiatives, including safety arrangements for Muharram, flood response operations, volunteer training, and district-level performance. He noted that Civil Defence personnel and volunteers played a vital role across all 36 districts during recent emergencies.
\nDuring his visit, Barrister Dr. Saif also inspected the Civil Defence Joint Police Training Class, where he lauded the high standards of professional drills being carried out. He welcomed the provincial government\u2019s announcement of a Rs10,000 reward for Civil Defence personnel, describing it as a positive and encouraging initiative. \u201cRecognizing and appreciating the efforts of such dedicated individuals is the responsibility of the state,\u201d he remarked.
\nA special mention was made of Hilal, a volunteer from Swat, who displayed exceptional courage by saving lives during the recent floods in the River Swat. Barrister Saif praised his heroism and declared him \u201ca true national asset.\u201d He added, \u201cYouth like him, who selflessly serve humanity, are the real strength of the nation.\u201d
\nThe Director also highlighted key challenges facing the department, including a shortage of vehicles and equipment needed for fire safety inspections at petrol pumps, CNG stations, and hotels, as well as the need for specialized transport and tools for emergency responses.
\nHe further referenced a 2005 National Assembly resolution mandating three-month Civil Defence training for students in grades 9 and 10\u2014an initiative yet to be implemented.
