\nEvery year on July 19, we commemorate Yom-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan \u2014 the Day of Accession to Pakistan \u2014 a deeply significant and solemn occasion in the political and historical journey of Jammu and Kashmir. On this day in 1947, the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference, representing the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, passed a landmark resolution in Srinagar, declaring the will of the people of the region to accede to the soon-to-be-formed state of Pakistan.
\nThis resolution was not merely a political gesture, but a powerful expression of the cultural, religious, and ideological alignment between the people of Kashmir and Pakistan. The decision was rooted in the Two-Nation Theory, the foundational principle behind the creation of Pakistan, and reflected the overwhelming desire of the Muslim majority population of Kashmir to join a state where their religious and cultural identity could thrive.
\nThe resolution of July 19, 1947, came before the partition of British India and the formal creation of Pakistan on August 14, 1947. It was a clear and proactive declaration of intent \u2014 a democratic expression made through a representative political platform. The people of Kashmir envisioned their future in Pakistan, driven by shared values, economic and geographical connectivity, and a common struggle for self-determination.
\nUnfortunately, this rightful aspiration of the Kashmiri people was denied by force when the Maharaja of Kashmir, against the will of the majority, chose to accede to India under controversial circumstances, triggering a conflict that continues to this day.
\nSince then, the people of Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir have faced decades of oppression, human rights violations, and denial of basic freedoms. Despite this, the spirit of resistance and the dream of self-determination remain alive in the hearts of Kashmiris. Yom-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan serves as a reminder that their voices, though suppressed, continue to echo the desire for freedom and accession to Pakistan.
\nPakistan has consistently reaffirmed its moral, diplomatic, and political support to the Kashmiri cause and advocates for the resolution of the dispute in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions, which call for a free and fair plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir.
\nOn Yom-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan, Pakistanis across the country and around the world stand in solidarity with the people of Kashmir. It is a day to remember the sacrifices made, to honor the historical decision of accession, and to renew the commitment to the just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue.
\nThe occasion also calls on the international community to recognize the legitimate aspirations of the Kashmiri people and to act against the continuing injustices, demographic changes, and curtailment of freedoms in the occupied territory.
\nYom-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan is not just a date in history \u2014 it is a symbol of a shared destiny.
