\nIn a key step toward promoting education, improving academic standards, and integrating out-of-school children into the mainstream education system, the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has officially launched the \u201cIlm Packet\u201d program.
\nInitiated with the support of the UK government\u2019s development agency, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), this program marks a milestone in the province\u2019s educational journey.
\nThe formal inauguration of the Ilm Packet program was carried out by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur at an impressive ceremony held at the Chief Minister House in Peshawar.
\nThe event was attended by Provincial Education Minister Faisal Khan Tarakai, British Council Pakistan\u2019s Country Director James Hampson, senior officials from the education department, and representatives of partner organizations. During the ceremony, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the British Council Pakistan to implement the program, reaffirming the commitment to its successful execution.
\nUnder the Ilm Packet program, 80,000 out-of-school children from eight underprivileged districts\u2014Battagram, Mansehra, Swabi, Buner, Shangla, Khyber, Mohmand, and Dera Ismail Khan\u2014will be enrolled in schools.
\nAdditionally, the program includes initiatives to improve the quality of education, modern training for teachers, training of parent-teacher committees, and the provision of educational facilities to students.
\nOne of the program\u2019s most distinctive features is its special focus on the education of girls, underprivileged children, children with disabilities, and children from religious minority communities.
\nAwareness campaigns to raise consciousness about the importance of education are also part of the initiative, aiming to remove societal barriers and ensure that every child receives the light of education.
\nDuring his speech at the launch event, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur described the Ilm Packet program as a revolutionary step toward modernizing the education system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He stated that his government\u2019s mission is not just to provide education but to ensure quality education.
\nThe Chief Minister announced that the provincial government has set a target to ensure that no child sits in public schools without a chair and desk this year, and funds have already been allocated for this purpose.
\nHe also revealed that, in the past year alone, 1.3 million out-of-school children were enrolled in schools, and the target for the current academic year is to enroll another 1 million. Along with free textbooks, students are being provided with stationery and school bags.
\nAs many as 18,000 new teachers are currently being recruited on merit, which will significantly strengthen the teaching process in schools.
\nHighlighting other education sector initiatives, the Chief Minister mentioned that 21% of the total provincial budget for the current fiscal year has been allocated exclusively for elementary and secondary education, demonstrating the government\u2019s strong commitment to making education its top priority.
\nThe enforcement of an \u201ceducation emergency\u201d and the focus of all resources on educational uplift could potentially transform the future of coming generations.
\nViewed objectively, the Ilm Packet program represents a beacon of hope for education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
\nIt will not only educate thousands of children but also marks significant progress in girls\u2019 education, a component that deserves special appreciation.
