Under army chief directives
\n ISLAMABAD
\nDG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that, under the directives of the Army Chief Pakistan army is participating in rescue and relief operations.
\nArmy Aviation, Medical battalion and doctors from Combined Military Hospitals (CMHs) are actively engaged in different areas. 6903 people have been rescued.
\nTreatment is being provided by to flood affectees by setting up 9 medical camps.
\nInformation Minister Minister Attaullah Tarar, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman jointly briefed the media on the monsoon rains and flood situation on Tuesday.
\nInformation minister Atta Ullah Tarar said heavy loss has been caused to human lives and property due to urban flooding.
\nRescue and relief activities have been geared up in affected areas under Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif directives.
\nNDMA, Pakistan Army, and federal and provincial governments are engaged in rescue and relief activities under joint strategy.
\nHe held electricity and communication system has been adversely affected in flood hit areas of, Buner, Swat, Shangla and Bajaur.
\n70 percent electricity supply has been restored during last 48 hours. 25 out of 35 affected feeders of Swat have been restored. 3 out of 9 feeders in Buner have been restored. Work is underway on other feeders.
\nHe assured electricity is being supplied uninterrupted to all hospitals so that process of provision of medical facilities is not disrupted.
\nHe further said federal minister Sardar Owais Laghari is there in affected areas. Amir Muqam is monitoring restoration of communication system in Bajaur and Aleem Khan in Gilgit.
\nMalakand- Basham road has been completed restored. N-90 has been opened for traffic. About relief steps information minister said 1200 tents, 40 tones ration packs, generators and de-watering pumps have been sent to affected areas so far.
\nA special team of doctors has been sent from PIMS hospital. Over 500 medical camps have been set up where treatment facilities are being provided to affectees.
\nHe appealed to the nation to demonstrate unity and harmony in trying time so that the effects of natural disaster could be minimized.
\nNDMA Chairman Authority Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik said flood situation has been created due to glacier melt and cloud bursts in northern areas.
\n670 deaths have been caused and over 1000 persons have been injured due to recent rains and floods. 25000 affectees have been saved from August 17 so far and medical treatment was provided to them. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
