\nAdvisor to the Chief Minister on Health, Ihtesham Ali, on Wednesday flagged off a convoy of emergency relief vehicles dispatched by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Foundation to flood-affected districts across the province.
\nThe convoy, comprising ten vehicles, carried emergency medicines, food supplies, and medical personnel. Managing Director of the Health Foundation, Dr Khizar Hayat, along with his team, oversaw the dispatch. The health advisor expressed gratitude to the Foundation for its swift response and coordination.
\nSeparately, Ihtisham Ali released updated data on the Department of Health\u2019s ongoing operations in flood-hit areas, including medical camps and disease surveillance. According to the figures, 32 medical camps have been established so far, where 6,939 patients have been examined. In the past 24 hours alone, 33,842 patients received treatment, while five deaths were reported. The cumulative number of treated patients has reached 81,244, with 322 deaths recorded at health facilities.
\nThe health advisor warned of a surge in cases of acute respiratory infections (ARI), skin diseases, and diarrhoea in the affected regions. He urged citizens and humanitarian organizations to ensure the provision of clean drinking water to prevent waterborne diseases. He also cautioned against a potential malaria outbreak and called for vigilance.
\nOn August 18, health authorities reported 270 cases of acute diarrhea, 244 cases of respiratory illness, 85 cases of skin infections, four cases of bloody diarrhea, eight new malaria cases, and six incidents of dog bites. In response, the department has already distributed water purification tablets, mosquito nets, oral rehydration salts (ORS), and essential vaccines.
\nIhtisham Ali further stated that a district-level health cluster has been activated to enhance coordination between the health department and partner organizations.
