\nLeader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Lawyers Wing Moazzam Butt has said that the ongoing political conflict in Pakistan is aimed at keeping Imran Khan behind bars due to his widespread popularity among the people.
\nAddressing a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club (PPC), Butt said that the constitution was being compromised while political leaders remained reluctant to play their role. He alleged that members of PTI, whether from the National Assembly or provincial assemblies, are being expelled by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), which has already completed its constitutional five-year term. He criticized the ECP for taking \u201chasty and politically motivated decisions\u201d and urged PTI leadership to challenge its authority in court.
\nHe called on senior lawyers\u2019 groups, including those of Hamid Khan and the late Asma Jahangir, as well as bar associations across the country, to unite for the protection of democracy.
\n\u201cLawyers, media, and the public must struggle together to safeguard democratic institutions,\u201d he said.
\nButt warned against confrontational politics, stressing that the fight for Imran Khan\u2019s freedom must remain within constitutional limits. Commenting on the proposed 27th Amendment, he said it would be tantamount to martial law and would endanger democracy in the country.
\nHe also expressed concerns over a political figure from KP who has acted as a messenger between Imran Khan and party leaders, claiming his role has become \u201csuspicious,\u201d particularly during the Senate ticket distribution process.
